Helpful Tips and Tricks

  • Serve this with some homemade butterscotch sauce to dip into for even more decadence.
  • While this is like a tear away bread, if you aren’t into getting your hands sticky, then you can eat this Monkey Bread with a fork and knife.
  • You can melt the butter in a saucepan on the stovetop or in a microwave safe container in the microwave.
  • If you don’t want to use cooking spray and want to use butter to prep the pan you can. If you need help buttering your flute pan. Melt your butter and pour it in the pan and then use a pastry brush to brush the pan with the butter. Now you can make sure the whole thing gets prepped.
  • The pan will be hot after 10 minutes of cooling time. But, the Monkey Bread needs to come out to finish cooling. If adding some more drizzle on top of it, be sure to remove the bread from the pan first. Otherwise, using the sauce could cause your monkey bread to stick to the pan. Instead, remove it from the pan and then drizzle the sauce on. Serve it warm and enjoy each sticky and super delicious bite.

Recipe Variations and Substitutions

  • Add some more crunch: You can try walnuts, raisins, almonds or even dried cranberries or other diced dried fruit that you prefer. You can omit the nuts all together if you don’t like nuts or need this to be a nut free recipe.
  • If you don’t have crescent rolls, you can use refrigerated biscuit dough or even the frozen biscuits you can find in a bag in the grocery store frozen food aisles.
  • For even more sweetness (and stickiness) drizzle some homemade caramel sauce all over your Butterscotch Monkey Bread before serving.

Leftover Storage

If you have leftover monkey bread, wrap it in plastic and keep it in the fridge for 3-4 days. But, honestly this is sooo good, it probably won’t last that long.

Rewarm your monkey bread before serving and enjoying again.

Can I Freeze This?

Yes and that’s a perfect idea. Why not make a double batch of this?! Enjoy some now and freeze the rest for later.

Wrap it in plastic wrap and then again with aluminum foil before placing leftovers in a freezer safe container or a freezer safe zip top bag.

Frozen Pecan Butterscotch Monkey Bread should last up to 2-3 months.

Thaw your frozen bread in the fridge overnight before reheating and serving again.

What is the difference between caramel and butterscotch?

If you’ve ever wondered what the difference was between butterscotch and caramel, let me enlighten you. It’s pretty simple.

Butterscotch is made with brown sugar while caramel is made with white sugar. I’m fond of both flavours and use them quite a bit in my baking.

Some people use them interchangeably, but they do have different tastes.

How should I serve this?

One serving idea is to put a piece in a bowl and add a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. It will melt against the warm butterscotch sauce.

You can serve this for either breakfast, or dessert. It would go really well with a slice of Caramel Pecan Cheesecake if using it for dessert.

This monkey bread would also pair nicely with a pile of Scrambled Egg Casserole to counterbalance all the sweetness from this dessert monkey bread recipe.

How long does this take to bake?

In general, the recipe bakes in about 40 minutes. Make sure you check the middle since that tends to be the last place that bakes.

If you notice it’s looking a little raw still, leave it a bit longer. Everyone’s oven will be different.

Don’t hesitate to adjust the baking time as you see fit for your personal situation.
