How I make this orange ginger chicken and brocolli?

I start by heating up some avocado oil in a deep skillet. To the hot skillet I add the grated ginger and garlic. When fragrant, I add orange juice, soy sauce (or tamari or coconut aminos), apple cider vinegar, sesame oil, honey and chili flakes.

When the sauce is boiling, I turn the heat to low and simmer it for 10-15 minutes until thickened. Taking the sauce of the heat, I add the orange zest. I taste it and adjust the flavor by adding salt, pepper, more orange juice or soy sauce. I set the sauce aside for now (if the chicken and broccoli are not ready yet).

While the sauce is reducing, I season the chicken with salt and pepper. In a large skillet I heat up with some avocado oil and add the seasoned chicken for 5-8 minutes until cooked through, but still juicy. In another pot I parboil the broccoli florets in boiling water just long enough for the florets to stay firm and crunchy, about 3-5 minutes.

I add both the broccoli and the chicken to the thickened sauce and stir to combine. The orange ginger chicken and broccoli is ready for plating now.

I divide it over 4 plates, serve it with (brown) rice and garnish the chicken and broccoli with sesame seeds.

Is this meal family friendly?

Yes, it is! Adding chili flakes to the sauce is not essential at all. You can leave it out or add only a tiny bit. This is what I do; every time I make this meal (or any other recipe that uses chili flakes or other type of spice condiment) I add a tiny little bit more, so my kids get accustomed to it (a bit more).

This is such a flavorful meal. We all love it here in this household! We hope you and your family will enjoy it too. It is

so easy and quick to make – colorful – the perfect family weekday meal – great to serve to guests as well – so flavorful – & incredibly delicious

Here is some more quick and easy weekday meal inspo for you: healthy sweet and sour shrimp, chicken cherry tomato orzo, chicken or cauliflower tikka masala and roasted carrot dal.
