Our favourite March 2017 beauty buys you don't want to miss (3)

We’re just at the halfway point of March, which means we’re at least a good 10 weeks into 2017 (my, how time flies). This month has seen some wonderful new skincare and makeup additions, so to ensure you don’t miss out, we’ve rounded them up in one place for your perusal..

While new lip products were just about everywhere this month, there were also some new skincare and makeup options that have earned a place on our top shelf of beauty buys that we know we’re going to be loving and using for a long time.

So if you’ve been itching to buy new beauty products, here’s your guide to March 2017’s launches.

Beautyblender Bubble and micro.mini Bubble, $32 and $29 respectively

2/10

Despite the fact that it’s the exact same product each time, there’s no denying the thrill that comes from seeing a brand new shade of Beautyblender on the shelves. There really are few beauty sponges (available in Singapore at least) that do as good a job as the Beautyblender when it comes to getting your foundation (or any other cream and liquid makeup, for that matter) to look as flawless as possible.

In celebration of Beautyblender’s 15th anniversary (we had no idea the brand’s been around so long), they’ve released this light pink Bubble shade, inspired by a celebratory pink champagne. And hey, since you should be getting rid of your beauty sponges every three to six months, it’s probably time for a new one anyway!

Hourglass Girl Lip Stylo, $48

3/10

We’ve mentioned these a few times now, and for good reason. While these lipsticks are rather pricey at $48 a pop, they’re gorgeous in every way and well worth the price in my opinion. For starters, the formula is incredibly hydrating with its blend of shea butter, jojoba, mimosa and sunflower seed. Application-wise, this also glides on smoothly, doesn’t feather and provides lots of pigment in one swipe. The best part about it is that it doesn’t accentuate dry patches on your lips either.

There are 20 different shades, all gorgeously ensconced in a sleek Hourglass stylo, each with empowering titles like Inventor, Achiever, Warrior and Explorer. Not only do they make you look good, they’re also going to get you feeling pretty confident as well!

Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick, $42

You’ve probably known about Smashbox or at least seen the brand in Sephora stores for years, but chances are that nothing new or exciting about the brand has caught your eye until now. The brand is getting a huge boost or re-push in Singapore (out in Sephora Ion starting today) and it’s just in time for some exciting new launches.

These Always On Liquid Lipsticks in particular are quite possibly my favourite of the new offerings. It’s a dry-down matte liquid lipstick, which means it’s kiss-proof and long-wearing. But here’s the shocker: it’s the least drying kiss-proof matte liquid lipstick I have ever tried. The formula supposedly contains some of the brand’s primer oil which makes it super comfortable and supple, but said oil is also designed to be quickly absorbed by your skin so it doesn’t affect the longevity and matteness of the lipstick. If you’ve always wanted a liquid lipstick but haven’t liked any you’ve tried so far, give these a whirl. And yes, the colour selection is also stunning.

Sephora’s new cleansing range, $9 to $10

5/10

From cleansing and exfoliating wipes to cleansing creams and micellar waters, gels and milks, Sephora Singapore has just massively expanded its in-house cleansing range. You’re probably already familiar with the sheet masks that come with different ingredients for different skin concerns (think hydrating rose or refreshing pomegranate), so these aren’t too different. There’s something for quite literally everyone with the new range, including a charcoal version of the wipes, cleansing cream and micellar water for purifying your skin.

You can mix and match your choices as well: Try the rose cleansing wipes to cleanse without drying out your skin; followed by an exfoliating charcoal cleansing cream to gently purify the skin; or swap for an mattifying anti-blemish green tea micellar water on alternate days if you’re blemish-prone.

Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil shade extensions, $38

6/10

While the Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil isn’t new by any means, the brand has just released 10 brand new colours in the line. With delightfully suggestive names, some of these new shades are quite poignantly named after Prince songs. There are a few more wearable neutrals, but also more unique fun shades like a dark blue, two purples (with Prince? Of course), and a deep brown.

If you’re unfamiliar with these lip pencils, they are downright amazing. Comfortable and incredibly lightweight on the lips (you’ll forget you’re wearing lipstick), they also stay matte and are almost completely kiss-proof. Plus, the handy pencil makes it super easy to apply.

Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Lite & They’re Real Double The Lip, $51 and $38 respectively

7/10

Hoola has been a cult favourite bronzer-contour product for years, if not the most popular of all time. Still, there has only been Hoola in one shade, till now. The brand has finally launched a lighter Hoola for anyone with pale to light skin tones. We’re still waiting on one for deeper skin, but we have hopes it won’t be too long now.

The brand has also just released its new Double The Lip products that function like a lip liner and lipstick in one. Basically, the lipstick twists up in a teardrop shape, and the narrowest end of the teardrop (which ideally hugs the outline of your lips) has a different slightly darker shade to give your lips more definition and the illusion of volume. The lipstick formula is quite a comfortable semi-matte one that applies smoothly and doesn’t feel drying.

Marc Jacobs Beauty liquid lipsticks and matte highliners, $44 and $38 respectively

8/10

Marc Jacobs joined the liquid lipstick game this year with the launch of gorgeous lip creams. Now, they won’t dry down to a fully kiss-proof matte like your other liquid lipsticks, but they come in some beautiful shades and feel so nice and velvety soft on the lips. Plus, no unsightly feathering or exaggerating of your lip lines thanks to the Brazilian cupuaçu butter and collagen in the formula.

While I haven’t been a huge fan of some of the highliners before (some are too sparkly and stiff to apply), I have mad love for the new matte ones. The formula is more creamy and smooth so it doesn’t tug on your eyelids, and that colour stays put practically forever. If you don’t use an oil-based makeup remover, it could easily stay on your skin for days. There are some really fun bright colours to choose from as well.

YSL Beauty Le Compact Encre De Peau, $99

9/10

If you love the Encre de Peau foundation from Yves Saint Laurent Beaute, you’ll already be familiar with the cushion version that launched last year. Well this year, the brand has released a rather unique “bouncy” version of the foundation, which is meant to boast all the flexibility and lightness of a liquid foundation but the finish and coverage of a powder. This means you can use this either as a foundation (built up for higher coverage), or as a lighter finishing powder.

Sciency types will be interested to know that this contains something the brand calls 3D Elastic Gel technology (the first in a YSL product) that contributes to the “bouncy” and more flexible effect in the foundation. That way, you aren’t left with a flat and overly matte complexion. It only comes in six shades that generally suit light-to-medium skin tones.

Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Brightening and Smoothing Moisture Treatment, $80

10/10

When it comes to dark spots and skin discolouration, we know and love the Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution. It’s pricey but effective, and a little goes a very long way. This month, Kiehl’s launched a new moisturiser that perfectly complements the Dark Spot Solution, and while it has the same three key ingredients as the Spot Solution, the new moisturiser also contains glycolic acid. What this is going to do is help resurface your skin with a gentle acid exfoliation, so your skin is better able to absorb moisture, looks more radiant, and smoother all round.

The formula feels like a cool comfortable gel on the skin, and while it sinks into the skin and keeps it hydrated for hours, there is also a surprising smoothing effect almost like an invisible layer that makes your skin’s imperfections look a little blurred. We expect it would sit really nicely under certain foundations if you’re going for a more airbrushed look.
