Status:Trending idea

Ublock Origin is one of the most popular add ons, and I think it would be great to integrate it directly into Firefox and Firefox Mobile as a setting. Perhaps it could be part of the 'strict' setting of the tracking protection, or it could be a separate setting for blocking ads.

Microsoft Edge has a built in optional ad blocker on mobile, and I think having this in Firefox on desktop and mobile would be a great benefit, rather than relying on users knowing about it and having them download it from the add on store.

Adguard has strong ad filtering capabilities, and will not lose to ublock origin in terms of ad filtering, and Adguard is an open source browser extension, anyone can get the source code of Adguard in GitHub and view the code, and everyone can trust in terms of security. In addition, Adguard has other privacy features, there are many filters in Adguard, and there are detailed descriptions of the functions of each filter, such as which aspect and which country to filter ads .

Install Ublock Origin by DEFAULT.

When installing Firefox, have a 'tickbox' "Install Ublock Origin extension to block ads". Ticked by default.

Same for the Mobile version.

Firefox already has the 'pocket' sponsored adds and stuff, how about add something we actually want.

Here's an idea, let's pop-up a new "welcome to Firefox" window to show popular extensions to the new user. And put up the greats like privacy badger and uBlock Origin to be a one click install.

What about an option to block iframe/frame by default and to allow them explicitly. I now « web X.0 bla-bla-bla » but most of usage of iframe are to « steal data » or to « show/inject unwanted/dangerous content »

it require no memory at all.

Overall, I think this is a good idea, and as much I would like this main idea to be implemented, I currently have some problems with it and as such, I believe that it would be beneficial to change how the idea could be implemented, some good examples I saw, were that there is an option to install uBlock Origin during a sort of onboarding processes when the browser is first launched. An example of this would be a checklist such as during Discord Onboarding on a server with it enabled, as shown with this link, I believe that this would serve as an overall benefit to UX and also partially Mozilla themselves, as firstly, you can have pre-configured extensions to be installed, or just the default. Secondly, you can have sponsored extensions here; this will bring in at least something extra, whilst also not being intrusive as it only shows once and then its gone from your screen. Thirdly, it would also be possible to move Pocket into this menu and also into addons.mozilla so that it can be re-installed if need be, and finally, it would also allow for an easier and quicker setup of Firefox, whilst also allowing the promotion of good online practices to those who are unaware.

tl;dr I think its good but it can be better due to various reasons whilst also potentially increasing the amount of sponsorship money mozilla gets. It can also decrease the time it takes to get firefox running with good extensions and promote good extensions that people might otherwise be unaware of.

Make uBlock Origin Default Pre-Installed Ad-Blocker

Mozilla needs to make uBlock Origin the default pre-installed ad-blocker on Firefox, just to full on counter Google Chrome's shift away from Manifest v2. This would make a huge statement and might win people over just by the message. Also, Firefox just needs a built-in ad-blocker, Brave, Firefox's main rival on the Chromium side, has a built-in ad-blocker and even less private browsers like Opera have one too. This is another reason I believe Mozilla needs to understand their base and promote privacy and security of their users.

A great idea.

Instead of providing a controversial filter list yourselfes and risk a conflict with google, just provide the infrastructure for filtering and replacing scripts, images, iframes and objects in general while keeping compatible with the ublock origin and adblock formats out there.

Then people can add their own filterlists and filters and you aren't liable.

This also avoids the trouble of changing manifest versions like Google Chrome does and breaking addon compatibility while doing so.

If it's done in the firefox code, webextension api doesn't matter anymore.
